Shaheen Iqbal elected CFA Society president

CFA Society Bangladesh has also elected Nazmul Ahsan, head of treasury at Midland Bank, as its vice-president

Md Shaheen Iqbal, head of Treasury and Financial Institutions at Brac Bank, has been elected president of the CFA Society Bangladesh.

The tenure of Iqbal, who previously served as a board member of the Society of Bangladeshi Chartered Financial Analysts, has taken effect from July 01, 2020.

He has gained extensive experience in the areas of treasury management and relationship management with global and local counterparts over the course of his illustrious career, said CFA Society Bangladesh in a recent statement.

Iqbal started his career in Beximco where he gained hands-on experience in the textile industry.

Afterwards, his overture to the banking industry began in 1999 at Dutch Bangla Bank where he honed his prowess in both branch banking and international trade.

His career at Brac Bank began in 2004 as manager, asset liability management.

Iqbal rose to the rank of head of Treasury and Financial Institutions in 2014 by proving his mettle in the fields of foreign exchange, money market, capital market, asset liability management and relationship management with global and local financial institutions.

Like all other society members, Iqbal has earned the Chartered Financial Analyst designation (CFA Charter) from the CFA Institute, USA.

He completed his MBA from the Institute of Business Administration under the University of Dhaka and his BSc in mechanical engineering from the Bangladesh Institute of Technologies (currently known as Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology).

Iqbal remains keen on all matters pertaining to financial markets particularly investment analysis and financial derivatives.

CFA Society Bangladesh has also elected Nazmul Ahsan, head of treasury at Midland Bank, as its vice-president.

Deputy Director of the Bangladesh Bank Md Shah Naoaj and EDGE AMC Ltd Chief Executive Officer Ali Imam have been elected secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the society.

Immediate past president Shahidul Islam, chief executive officer of VIPB AMC, will serve the society as a director.

Other directors are Zabid Md Iqbal, chief risk officer of City Bank, and Md Moniruzzaman, managing director of IDLC Investments. 

They will lead the community of 122 regular and 115 associate members for the next two years.
