Sexual harassment on moving bus in Chattogram, 3 arrested

Police have arrested three men over alleged sexual harassment of a female student of Chittagong University on a moving bus.
The arrestees include driver of a Shohagh Paribahan bus Ehsan Karim, 32, superviser Ali Abbas, 30, and helper Md Bhutto, 30, all hailing from Chakaria upazila of Cox's Bazar.
Amina Begum, the additional commissioner (crime) of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police, told the reporters at a briefing on Sunday.
On November 30, police raided Bahaddarhat bus terminal and outer signal area of the city and arrested the men after the victim filed a complaint. They all confessed to police of their involvement in the incident during a primary interrogation, said Amina Begum.
According to the police official, the girl on November 27 was returning to Chattogram from Munsef Bazar area of Patiya upazila by a Shohagh Paribahan bus. Most of the passengers got off when the bus arrived at the Notun Bridge area of the city.
The girl wanted to get down on Chandgaon police station area but the bus helper refused to follow her request. She then tried to call national emergency helpline "999" but the bus supervisor tried to snatch her mobile phone and pushed her.
At one stage, the student started to scream, and the bus driver stopped the bus to let her get down.
