Seven killed in bus accidents

Seven people were killed in separate road accidents in Dhaka and Chattogram in the last two days.

In capital's Uttara area, two motorcyclists were killed after a bus hit a motorcycle on Friday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Jewel, 36, and Liton, 35.

Sub-Inspector of Uttara (East) Police Station Rafiz Uddin Ahmed said the accident took place at around 2:45pm when a bus of Ovi Enterprise hit the motorbike, leaving the duo critically injured. Local people rushed them to a nearby hospital where the doctor declared them dead. Police detained the bus driver.

In Chattogram, three people were killed and several others injured in a head-on collision between two buses on the Cox's Bazar-Chattogram Highway in Patiya upazila on Friday.

Police said the accident took place when a bus of Shyamoli Paribahan collided with another bus at around 11:15am.

The deceased were identified as Omar Faruque, 40, Zahed Hossain, 41, and Nigar Sultana, 32.

In another accident, two passers-by were killed when a speeding bus knocked them down in Dhaka's Jatrabari area on Thursday.

The deceased were Anwar, 40, and his nephew Salauddin, 20.

Inspector Bachchu Mia, the in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost, said a bus of Anabil Paribahan hit the duo near Jatrabari Saddam Market when they were crossing the road at around 10pm on Thursday, leaving them severely injured.

Local people rushed them to the DMCH where doctors declared them dead at 2am on Friday, he added.
