Mushfiqur Rahman, a senior reporter of private television channel Mohona TV, has been missing since Saturday evening, claim family and colleagues.

A General Diary (GD) has already been filed with the Gulshan Police Station regarding the matter.

Salma Rahman, the reporter’s wife, told The Business Standard that he went to Gulshan to see his uncle on Saturday. After his visit to his uncle’s home in Gulshan, he went missing on his way back to his home in Mirpur. “I found his mobile phone switched off since 7.30pm in the afternoon”.

Ejabul Haque, Musfiqur’s uncle, said that recently Mushfiqur was elected as the chairman of the ‘managing committee’ of Chorgoali Khandaker Najir Ahmed Bohumukhi School, located in his village.

In connection of his win in the election, someone threatened to abduct him over the phone, calling from an unknown number at the night of July 21, claims his family members.

On July 22, Mushfiqur filed a GD (GD No-1920) with Pallabi Police Station, in this regard.

Home Minister Assaduzzaman Khan Kamal yesterday said that he has directed Gulshan police to take immediate steps to rescue missing Mohona TV journalist Mushfiqur Rahman.

"I spoke with the Deputy Commissioner, Gulshan Division, Mushtaq Ahmed and ordered him to find the missing journalist as soon as possible," the Home Minister added.

Mushtaq Ahmed said, police are trying to find Mushfiqur with the help of CCTV footages of Gulshan area, recorded on the day of possible abduction.
