An eighth-grader was punched to death during a scuffle with his classmate in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet yesterday.

Police said a scuffle ensued between the two teenage boys over sitting on a first row bench at Kasim Ali Government Model High School yesterday afternoon. At one stage, one of them punched his fellow, leaving him unconscious.

Later, the boy was taken to the Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Sylhet Additional Superintendent of Police Aminul Islam said the police arrested the accused from the school.

The body was sent to hospital for autopsy, said the police super.
