Desco will repair 32 substations on 15 scheduled days

Due to annual maintenance work of the Dhaka Electric Supply Company (Desco), there will be power outages in some areas of the capital from 8am to 4pm for a day this month.

In a notice, Desco said it will repair 32 substations on 15 scheduled days.

Noor Mohammad, executive director of Desco, told the media, "The annual maintenance work of Desco started on Thursday [5 November] to repair the substations."

"So, customers will not have electricity for eight hours in the areas where substations are being repaired," he added.

On the first day, Desco carried out the maintenance work at the Mirpur Stadium switching substation. As a result, there was no electricity at Mirpur Stadium, the Krira Palli Complex and adjacent areas.

When and where will the power outages occur?

8 November: There will be no power supply for eight hours at several roads in Gulshan, the Banani Post Office and several roads in the Banani area during the repair work on the Kakoli SS substation.

9 November: Desco will repair the Dakshinkhan SS substation. So, there will be no electricity at: Mazar Chowrasta, Uttarkhan Madhyapara, Balur Math, Shahi Masjid Road, Mund, Pulartek, Jamtala, Gazipara, Mainartek, Chandpara, Uttarkhan Uttarpara, Uzampur, Mauside, Chapanertek, Ziabagh, Mollapara, Shyamalbagh, Adarshapara, Rajjak Tower and its adjacent areas, Fazirbatan, Taltola, Uttarkhan, Miyapara, Puranpara, Kuriparartek, Barabagh, Faidabad, Teramukh, Hindupara, Snanghat, Gudaraghat, plus Dakshinkhan Bazar and its adjacent areas.

11 November: There will be no electricity at some roads in Sector 11 of Uttara and Uttara Sonargaon Janapath areas to carry out maintenance work at the Uttara Grid SS and Tongi 3 substations.

12 November: The Mirpur SS-2, Mohakhali SS and Kalachandpur Switching substations will be repaired, so the supply of electricity supply will be suspended in: the Mirpur Muktijoddha Co-operative Market, Shah Ali School and College, Mazar, North Bishil Turag City, Beribandh, Golartek, Harirampur, Priyaprangan Housing, Jahanabad, Mirpur New Market, Dhaka Eye Hospital, Janata Housing Area, icddr,b Hospital in Mohakhali, Setubhaban to the Kakoli bus stand, some roads in Baridhara K Block, some parts of UN Road, and Norda to Kuril Biswa Road.

15 November: The repair work on the Agargaon New SS, Mirpur DOHS SS, Gulshan 1 SS, Dakshin Khan substations will start this day. As a result, there will be no electricity on several avenues of Mirpur DOHS, roads 23, 24, 27, 21, 30, 28 of Gulshan 1 and along some other roads.

Additionally, there will be a power cut in: West Agargaon, Water Tank Junction, the District Election Office, LGED Zonal Office, Barek Mollah Junction, Kashemer Dokan, North Pirerbagh, Miker Dokan, plus Shewrapara Ananda Bazar and its adjacent areas.

16 November: The BSIC substation in Tongi will be repaired and the supply of electricity will be cut off on the east side of the BSIC water tank and its adjacent areas.

18 November: The ADA SS substation will be repaired and there will be no electricity in Kawla Mollabari, ASEAN City Road, Ashkona, plus Hajikamp and its surrounding areas.

19 November: The Bashundhara SS and Mirpur SS 2 substations will be repaired, so there will be no electricity in most parts of: Bashundhara Residential Area, IEB, North-South University, Grameenphone, Jamuna, and the Jugantar office.

Further, Mirpur Swadhin Super Market, Shahali Bagh, Muktijoddha Complex, the Zoo, and Botanical Gardens, Ansar Camp and the adjacent areas of Mirpur-1, Delta Hospital and the Tolarbagh residential areas will not get electricity during the repair work.

22 November: The Health Science SS, Gulshan 1 SS, Double SS, and Millgate Switching substation will be repaired. As a result, there will be a power outage along different roads of Gulshan 1, including the DCC Market and Gulshan.

Additionally, there will be no electricity at: Pallabi Residential Area, Grameen Telecom Trust Building, Olympia and Jerin Textile, Ansar Camp, Tolarbagh, Kallyanpur Natunbazar, the Jhilpar slum areas.

23 November: The Baridhara substation will be repaired and there will be no electricity in Shahjadpur, at the American, Japanese and Chinese embassies as well as North Badda Hajipara on that day.

25 November: There will be no electricity at: Kuril Bishwa Road, Hotel Radisson, Manikdi, Barantek, Balughat, Lichubagan, Sheora Bazar, Kamarpara Road Ijtema Math, and Sector number 12, 13, 14 of Uttara, Diabari. It also will be cut in some other areas during the maintenance of Jowarsahara SS, Tongi 3 SS and the Uttara Grid substations.

26 November: Mirpur 6 section substation, SS-3 Switching and the New Tongi Grid substations will be repaired. So, there will be no electricity at: the National Heart Foundation, Kidney Foundation, National Housing, Sanofi Factory, Barobagh, and surrounding areas.

29 November: There will be no electricity: in the Army chief's residence, from Army Headquarters to Garrison Mosque, in the Cantonment Area, at the National Foundation for Development of the Disabled, at Homeo Medical College, and at Vasantek Police Station during the maintenance of the Cant Park and Civil Aviation Switching, Dhamalkot and Nikunjo substations.

30 November: The substations of Uttara SS and Tongi 2 SS will be repaired. There will be no electricity in some areas of Sections 4 and 6 in Uttara, on both sides of the road from Azampur to Abdullapur, in Kanthaldia, Gazipura and Bagairtek areas on that day.
