Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said Saturday’s attack targeting the police might have been launched to delay the war crime trials.
"There is a high chance that this attack was launched in order to delay the war criminals' punishment," he said in a press briefing at DMP Headquarters on Sunday.
“The Holey Artisan attackers were brought to justice. Many other terrorist attacks were also hindered from being successful. The latest attack may be due to vengeful parties’ rage over the police force,” he added.
The commissioner called for public assistance to keep the city safe for its residents.
“We as protectors of the nation have never taken a step back to ensure citizen’s safety, even if we had to sacrifice our men to protect the city and its people,” he said.
Unidentified miscreants threw a handmade bomb targeting Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Tajul Islam’s car at capital's Science Lab intersection on Saturday night.
Two policemen were injured in the attack.
