Satkhira Deputy Commissioner (DC) SM Mostafa Kamal joined the farmers of Juborajpur village under Jhaodanga union in harvesting paddies.

He inaugurated the 'Nabanno' (harvest) festival while appearing on the field wearing the traditional hat of farmers and tying a 'gamacha' on his waist on Saturday evening.

The DC talked about the importance of the harvest festival in the rural culture. He also said 'pitha' (traditional cake) festival will be held soon in the district.

The DC said, "If any irregularities are found in the process of buying paddies from the farmers, severe punishment will be imposed. Meanwhile, the government has given directives to various organisations to purchase paddy from real farmers. Strict action will be taken against those concerned if they purchase paddy through middlemen or brokers. Immediate action will be taken against those who would harass farmers."

Deputy Assistant Director of District Farming, Aurobindo Biswas, presided over the discussion on the harvesting festival. Deputy Assistant Director (Crop) Jasim Uddin, District Training Officer Nurul Islam, President of District Farmer's Club and National Awarded Farmer Yarab Hossain, spoke at the occasion.
