Satkhira BCL committee declared defunct

The Satkhira district unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has been declared defunct due to expiration of the committee.

At the same time, Syed Sadikur Rahman, the general secretary, has been suspended for breaching organisational discipline.

Central Chhatra League's acting President Al Nahian Khan Joy and General Secretary Lekhak Bhattacharya confirmed the matter yesterday.

According to the notice, allegation concerning Sadikur Rahman's involved in the anti-BCL activities was proven to be true, resulting in suspension from the BCL. The notice also states the expiration of the committee.

Notably, Chhatra League activist Moinul Islam's son Dip, 22, and Saiful Islam, 28, a resident of Sahati village of Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira, were killed in the gun-battle with Satkhira police during the early hours on Saturday.

Police claimed the duo were robbers. The police recovered weapons and bullets from the Bypass Road Area of Satkhira where the gunfight took place.

A case has been filed against the general secretary under the Arms Act with Satkhira police station.
