Summit Alliance Port Limited's (SAPL) Inland Water Container Terminal, located at Muktarpur, Munshiganj with substantial customs-bonded storage capacities and presence of Bangladesh Customs personnel, has come forward to provide much needed alternative import logistics solutions for Bangladesh and some relief at the nation's congested container yards.

SAPL has successfully begun diverting the import containers bound for Kamalapur ICD from Chattogram Port to SAPL's Inland Water Container Terminal in Muktarpur using specially designed inland container vessels, according to a press release.

From Muktarpur, upon customs clearance the importers are receiving their items. SAPL's facility is also able to offer much needed consolidation and port services to the Dhaka-based exporters.

The already busy Chattogram Port and Kamalapur Inland Container Depot (ICD) are facing severe congestion due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Kamalapur ICD is well beyond its storage capacity making it impossible for Chattogram Port to send import containers bound for Dhaka.

The Managing Director of SAPL Jowher Rizvi said, "SAPL is working to support the agriculture sector, textile and knitting industry, pharmaceutical and other manufacturers by bringing these vital raw materials to the anxious importers in Dhaka. At the same time, SAPL is supporting Chattogram Port and Kamalapur ICD to decongest their container yards."
