RU students demand hall provost’s resignation over sexual harassment

Students of Rajshahi University (RU) have demanded the resignation of the provost of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Hall over the allegation of sexual harassment of a female student at the teacher's residence.

They formed a human chain in front of the central library at 11am today, protesting the harassment of the student by Shamol Banik, brother of the Provost Bithika Banik on Tuesday night.

The students brought out a procession on the campus and staged a demonstration in front of the hall.

After locking the office room of the provost, they held a sit-in programme in front of the administrative building.

Several other allegations, including accommodating students in the hall illegally, misconducting with the students of the hall, were also raised against the provost.

Police arrested Shamol after the victim filed a case with Motihar Police Station over the incident.
