The bank officials could not open the vault with their keys as the robbers damaged the keyhole after the attempted break-in

An officer of United Commercial Bank's Kadamtoli branch came to the branch in a regular visit on Saturday morning as banks remain closed on Fridays and Saturdays.

To his utter surprise, the officer found three of the bank's main gate locks were broken and the security guard was nearly unconscious. The bank official sensed an attempt was made to rob the bank and he immediately dialled police's emergency service hotline 999.

A patrol team of police reached the spot fast and informed their high-ups and bank officials about the attempted robbery.

Later, Chattogram West Zone Deputy Commissioner Farook ul Haque, other police officials, officer-in-charge of Double Mooring police station and bank officials entered into the bank to check the situation.

Afterwards, the bank officials could not open the vault with their keys as the robbers damaged the keyhole after the attempted break-in.

In the meantime, a team from United Commercial Bank's head office reached the branch and opened the vault in alternative way.

Giving a relief to the bank officials, it was found that the robbers could not steal any money or valuables from the vault.

The owner of the building, where the bank is housed, said two persons talked to him about renting the fifth floor for an NGO and they were living at the floor for cleaning purpose. Police are suspecting that these two men tried to rob the branch.

Police are now trying to arrest the culprits.
