Robber killed in Narayanganj ‘gunfight’
Police recovered a pistol from the spot
A member of a bandit group was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Araihazar upazila in Narayangan early today.
The deceased Abu Sayeed alias Chhoitka, 35, of Jorkardia area of the upazila, was accused in eight to ten robbery cases filed with Araihazar and Sonargaon Police Station, said Nazrul Islam, office-in-charge of the police station.
Police arrested Sayeed on Saturday from his home and conducted a drive at Ulumdi area with him for detaining the other members of the bandit gang, said Nazrul Islam.
He said sensing the presence of the law enforcers, other members of the ring, opened fire on police, forcing them to retaliate.
Sayeed sustained bullet injuries during the gunfight and police rushed him to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex where doctor declared him dead, said the officer-in-charge adding that four police officials were also injured during the fight.
Police recovered a pistol from the spot.
