Cargo trucks of the Akhaura Land Port regularly ply this road

A big sinkhole has appeared on the Akhaura upazila portion of the Dhaka-Agartala international road, posing risks for the movement of vehicles.

Cargo trucks going to and coming from the Akhaura Land Port regularly ply this road. Currently, heavy vehicles are not allowed on it.

Locals alleged that three contractors recently stockpiled a large amount of wet sand on the side of the road after illegally extracting them from the Titas River adjacent to the road in Kodda area of Brahmanbaria Sadar.

One side of the road collapsed after water from the wet sand seeped onto the road and due to continuous rainfall in the past few days.

Three contractors responsible for the incident were arrested and fined Tk17 lakh to fund repairs.

Akhaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tahmina Akhter confirmed the matter and said she would visit the scene and take necessary action.
