To facilitate the road communication with India's Agartala, the government is going to build a bridge over the Meghna River on the Bhulta-Araihazar-Banchharampur road between Narayanganj and Brahmanbaria.

On Wednesday, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in a meeting approved a project in this regard.

After the meeting, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, convener of the committee, said the bridge could be constructed with a foreign government loan or under the public private partnership.

He added the construction of the bridge has been approved to ensure the fastest road connectivity between Dhaka and Agartala via Narayanganj and Brahmanbaria.

The meeting also approved a proposal to purchase 17 tugboats under a project of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority. They will be purchased from Dockyard and Engineering Works directed by the Bangladesh Navy.
