4 associations of the transportation sector demand an end to extortion

In a statement, they said that extortion in road transportation has disrupted the sector.  They added that from the time that public transportation is restarted on May 31, toll will not be paid at the terminal, on the road or anywhere else

Four top associations of transportation owners and workers in the country have issued statements seeking cooperation from the government to stop extortion at terminals and highways.

The presidents and general secretaries of the Bangladesh Road Transport Owners Association, Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, Bangladesh Bus Truck Owners Association, Bangladesh Truck Covered Van Owners Association made the demand while welcoming the government's decision to restart public transportation.

In the statement, they said that extortion in road transportation has disrupted the sector.  They added that from the time that public transportation is restarted on May 31, toll will not be paid at the terminal, on the road or anywhere else.

Only in accordance with the provisions of the respective constitutions approved by the government, toll can be collected from the members of their respective employers 'and workers' organisations in their respective offices.

Leaders of the organisations warned that they will take strict legal action if this provision is violated.
