Restrictions imposed on KSRM’s shipbreaking yard

During the restriction period, Khawja Ship Breaking Ltd will not be allowed to import any kind of scrap ships

The government has imposed a three-month restrictions on Khawja Ship Breaking Limited, a concern of Kabir Steel Re-Rolling Mills (KSRM) Group of Chattogram.

Ministry of Industries sent a letter, signed by Deputy Secretary Abul Khair, to the company on September 23 regarding the decision. 

During the restriction period, Khawja Ship Breaking Ltd will not be allowed to import any kind of scrap ships or to collect from local sources. 

The decision came following death of a worker at the shipbreaking yard on July 23. The worker died in an accident due to lack of awareness and safety measures, said the ministry letter.

The company has been instructed to enhance safety and security measures at the yard.
