Resolve polytechnic institutes’ crises: Teachers

Bangladesh Polytechnic Teachers Association has demanded that the authorities concerned take necessary steps to resolve the problems faced by polytechnic institutes across the country following the prime minister's instructions.

At a virtual meeting held on Thursday, the aggrieved teachers claimed that they are being denied from promotion even after serving as junior instructors for more than 10-15 years.

They asked for an immediate final gradation list of government polytechnic institutes under technical education board and promotion in all posts from junior instructor to principal.

They also demanded payment of the full salaries of staffers who work the second shift as per the 2015 pay scale and appointment of additional permanent teachers.

Blaming the education ministry, speakers at the meeting said the prime minister ordered the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to solve the crises of classrooms, labs and workshops in all polytechnic institutes one year ago, but the education ministry is yet to take any step to this end.

The virtual meeting was presided over by Bangladesh Polytechnic Teachers Association President Md Aman Ullah Khan Yousufzi, while the association's General Secretary GM Akhter Hossain moderated it.

Institution Of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) Central Executive Committee President AKMA Hamid, General Secretary Shamsur Rahman, principals of various government polytechnic institutes, IDEB Education and Training Secretary Md Idris Ali, Organising Secretary Md Rehan Mia, Public Relations and Publicity Secretary Md Sirajul Islam, among others, addressed the meeting.
