Regent's Shahed fakes sickness ahead of ACC grilling

Just an hour before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) was about to quiz Regent Hospital Chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim for the second day on Tuesday, he suddenly fell sick.

He was then taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.

The hospital authority after a thorough check-up certified him as fit, and the ACC team later took him to the commission's headquarters for interrogation.

Shahed has been on a seven-day remand since Monday in a case filed over misappropriating money from Padma Bank, formerly known as Farmers Bank.

After the first-day grilling, he was sent to Ramna Police Station to stay the night and was scheduled to face the second-day interrogation at the ACC at 10am on Tuesday.

On Tuesday morning, when an ACC team went to the police station to bring him to the commission for questioning, he said he was not feeling good.

He was then rushed to BSMMU Hospital where he underwent a few tests. After getting test results, doctors said he is fit.

Shahed was then taken to the interrogation cell of the ACC and grilled by investigators.

On August 10, a Dhaka court granted a seven-day fresh remand for Shahed in the Padma Bank money theft case after ACC Deputy Assistant Director Mohammad Shahjahan Miraj petitioned for a 10-day remand.

On July 27, the ACC filed the case against four people, including Shahed, on allegations of embezzling Tk1 crore from the bank.
