Rana Plaza owner's bail stayed till 10 July

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has stayed the High Court verdict that granted bail to Sohel Rana, owner of Rana Plaza which collapsed of a faulty structure killing more than one thousand lives, till 10 July. 

Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique passed the order on Monday.

The court also fixed the same date for the hearing of the leave to appeal filed by the state against the HC order.

Earlier on 6 April, the High Court granted bail to Sohel Rana in a case over the deaths of more than 1,135 people.

However, on 9 April, the chamber judge suspended Sohel's bail and referred the case to the Appellate Division.

On 24 April 2013, Rana Plaza building collapsed, leaving 1,135 people killed and around 1,169 seriously injured. 

On 29 April of the same year, Sohel Rana was arrested from Benapole in Jashore while fleeing to India.

He has been in prison since then, and three cases were filed in this incident.

A case was filed against him for violating building construction rules which caused the death and injury of more than two thousand people.

Of them, the police filed a murder case and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed another case over corruption related to building construction.
