On behalf of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Rajshahi district administration has taken the responsibility of Dil Afroz Khuki, the lone female newspaper seller in the district.

Following an instruction from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), Rajshahi Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Abdul Jalil visited Khuki's house in the city's Shiroil area on Wednesday afternoon and provided her with two sacks of rice, pulses and other necessary materials.

On Thursday afternoon, DC Md Abdul Jalil told The Business Standard over the phone, "I got a directive from the PMO to look after Khuki. We met her yesterday and provided her with food and other necessary items. Her house will also be renovated. She will be given all kinds of support until death."

The deputy commissioner said at the moment, she needs mental support the most.

Recently, a video of Dil Afroz Khuki went viral through social media. From then on, nationwide discussions started about her. The story of her struggling life came up in the discussions.

The Business Standard also published a report on this struggling woman on 7 November last year.

However, despite the nationwide talks about her, there was little impact on Khuki's daily life. On Thursday morning, the 60-year-old woman was walking from Rajshahi's Rail Gate area with magazines and selling them.

This is what she has been doing for the last 41 years. The childless lonely woman earns her living by selling magazines; she has also helped helpless women with that money.
