RAB takes up vegetable growing scheme to help poor in Tangail

After the harvest, 12 families will share the produced vegetables among themselves

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has taken an initiative to grow vegetables in an integrated manner to reduce the food crisis of poor families who have lost their jobs due to coronavirus. 

The experimental vegetable cultivation was inaugurated at Kathuayogini village in Tangail Sadar upazila on Saturday.

Company 3 of RAB-12 has taken this initiative in the district. 

RAB has selected 12 families from Kathuayogini village of Baghil Union. RAB has provided one Shajne tree (drumstick tree) and one vegetable cultivation platform, in each house of the 12 families. 

Of the 12 vegetable cultivation platforms, Chichinga (snake gourd) will be cultivated on three, pui vegetables (Malabar spinach) on three, Dhundal (sponge gourd) on three and Korola (bitter gourd) on three.

After the harvest, 12 families will share the produced vegetables among themselves.

MP Chanowar Hossain inaugurated the program by planting vegetable saplings on Saturday.

Commander of the 3 no company of RAB 12 Major Abu Naeem Talat, Sadar Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahjahan Ansari, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Muhammad Arif, Baghil Union Parishad Chairman Rafiqul Islam were present there.

RAB Commander Major Abu Naeem Talat said, "Many people have lost their jobs due to the coronavirus. This initiative has been taken to cultivate integrated vegetables using the fallow land at home so that the unemployed people do not have to face food crisis." 

These families will start getting yield next month and a half, he added.
