Rab conducted several drives and arrested 32 militants and 1082 criminals and seized drugs during the ongoing pandemic.

Abdullah Al-Mamun, newly appointed Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), said the force will increase vigilance to curb criminal activities, including drugs smuggling, robbery and terrorism, during the Covid-19 shutdown.

The elite force on Saturday arranged online press briefing from its headquarter to inform about the security measures during the holy month of Ramadan and ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

"We will increase patrolling to enforce the social distancing and stay at home instructions to contain the spread of Covid-19. If anyone defies social distancing advice Rab will take strict action against them," he said.

The Rab DG said the force took many measures to maintain social distancing and fined people, who were found wandering unnecessarily on streets during the Covid-19 shutdown.

Abdullah Al-Mamun said Rab conducted several drives and arrested 32 militants and 1082 criminals and seized drug during ongoing pandemic.

"Rab teams are helping commodity carrying vehicles to ply on the streets. But we have noticed that some smugglers are trying to use those vehicles to carry drugs. Our intelligence team is working on it actively. We urge people to remain alert and inform Rab if they get any information about drug peddling," Rab DG said he added.
