Public transport suspended from Monday 

Road, Transport and Bridges minister Obaidul Quader has announced that public transport will be suspended from Monday.

He said, however, the transportation of goods, emergency services, fuel, medicine, perishable, relief transport, newspapers, garments will remain out of restrictions. 

The minister came up with the announcement to reporters in the capital on Sunday, reports Somoy News.

Bangladesh is witnessing an alarming surge in coronavirus infections for one week.

Considering the worsening situation, government has taken decision to impose 7-day lockdown across the country from Monday.

Earlier, 3 April Quader announced that the mandate of nationwide lockdown for a week from Monday will be implemented to prevent the rise of Covid-19 infections.

After the announcement, many were leaving Dhaka to avoid lockdown. Crowds of passengers on buses, trains and launches were seen around the capital.

Besides, Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujon on Saturday said that all types of passenger trains except goods carrying trains would be stopped at Lockdown. 

Like last year, only freight trains will run in the lockdown, he said, adding that the passenger train will not run for as long as the lockdown is issued in the notification.
