Protesters hold rally at Shahbag demanding resignation of JU VC

Demonstrators under the banner 'JU against corruption' held a rally at Shahbag in the capital on Saturday afternoon demanding immediate resignation of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Vice-chancellor Prof Farzana Islam over corruption allegations.

JU teachers Professor Anu Muhammad, Professor Syed Ferdous, and Professor Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan, Ganasanghati Andolon Convener Zonayed Saki, Bangladesh Socialist Party central leader Razequzzaman Ratan, and Ducsu Vice-president Nurul Haque Nur were present at the rally, among others.

Opining that the government should terminate the corrupt vice-chancellor for the sake of the greater interest of restoring discipline on the campus, Nurul Haq Nur said, "If the government does not take action against the untruthful vice-chancellor, the protest might take the shape of an anti-government movement."

He also threatened to march to the Ministry of Education, if the JU vice-chancellor is not made to resign immediately.
