President Abdul Hamid and his wife Rashida Khanam have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine on Wednesday.

They took the vaccine at Bangabhaban around 5pm, said president's press secretary Joynal Abedin.

President Abdul Hamid called upon all the countrymen to take vaccine, in addition to abiding by the health guidelines.

Earlier on 4 March, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received the vaccine at her official residence Ganabhaban.

Bangladesh inaugurated the vaccination programme on 27 January and rolled out a mass-vaccination drive on 7 February.

As of Wednesday, a total of 41,18,953 people - 26,26,265 men and 14,92,688 women - have been inoculated against Covid-19.

All the vaccinated people are doing well, except some minor side-effects.
