Candidates’ popularity was taken into consideration, says Obaidul Quader

Ending days of speculation, the ruling Awami League named Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh as its candidate for the mayoral election of Dhaka South City Corporation.

While making the announcement, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said the "candidates' public acceptance and popularity were taken into consideration in nominating them for the mayoral elections of Dhaka city corporations."

"The nomination board also checked eligibility of the candidates and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina supported the decision of the board," Obaidul Quader added.

Born in 1971, Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, a member of Bangabandhu family, was elected member of the Parliament from Dhaka-10 constituency for the third consecutive term in 2018.

After getting the nomination, Fazle Noor Taposh said he will work to make Dhaka a developed city.

The party also picked Atiqul Islam to run for the mayoral election of Dhaka North City Corporation.

The elections to the city corporations will be held on January 30 next year.
