Khaleda Zia is better now, she has to take oxygen: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the party's Chairperson Khaleda Zia's health condition is better than yesterday.

"Her health condition is stable now. She is being given two litres of oxygen," he said on Tuesday afternoon.

Several members of Khaleda's medical team formed for his treatment said that the team is regularly reviewing her condition and till now they are satisfied with the situation.

Khaleda Zia has been admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka. She was shifted from the hospital cabin to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) in the afternoon due to shortness of breath since Monday morning.

Regarding any initiative to take Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment, the BNP secretary general said, "No, we have not talked about it so far."

However, her family sources said that since her condition has deteriorated a bit, the family has been trying for better treatment abroad.

A personal doctor of Khaleda said that she used to take treatment in Singapore and London regularly. The doctors involved in her treatment knew well about her condition. So, the treatment would have been better if she had been taken out of the country once again.

In this case, the doctor supported taking him to Singapore.

However, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said that the government had nothing to do with Khaleda Zia's treatment abroad.

She would have to have a court order for this. The government did not receive any request from Khaleda Zia in this regard, he added.

Asked whether a request had been made on behalf of Khaleda Zia's family after meeting him at a function in Dhaka's East Rajabazar on Tuesday, Asaduzzaman Kamal said, "We have not received any request from Khaleda Zia or her family."

While asked what the government would do if she applied, he said, "The prime minister has suspended the sentence and given her the facility to seek treatment at home. If you want to get more than that now, you have to come through the court."

On 11 April, the BNP chairperson was tested Covid-19 positive. Six more members in her house were tested positive at the same time.

She was undergoing treatment from home till 27 April under the supervision of a private medical team.
