Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case

The family of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will decide about applying for her release on parole, said party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

"It's completely matter of her family. They will decide on whether to apply or not," the senior BNP leader said after offering floral wreaths at the grave of party's founder Ziaur Rahman in the capital.

When asked if he had any talk with Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader regarding the parole, Fakhrul said, "Ask him (Obaidul) about it. We have not talked with him about parole."

Khaleda has been in jail since she was convicted in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case on February 8, 2018. She was found guilty in another corruption case later the same year, though her party claims both cases are politically motivated.

The BNP chief has been receiving treatment at BSMMU since April 1 last year.
