Police break up foreign returnee’s wedding in Chittagong

Police on Thursday broke up the wedding of an Oman-returnee expatriate in a Chattogram village that went ahead in violation of a warning against public gatherings amid coronavirus worries.

On information, police busted up the marriage ceremony of Rubel at Saherkhali union under Mirsarai upazila.

Bipul Chandra Debnath, officer-in-charge of Mirsarai Police Station, said, "We got a news about a foreign returnee's a wedding. Later, Sub-Inspector Imran and his team rushed to the spot and stopped the wedding."

Rubel and his family have been warned not to hold the marriage until the situation goes back to normal, he added.

Rubel's father Enamul Haque said, "We had planned for only akdh [marital agreement] at a mosque. We stopped it after police ordered us to do so."
