Police being prepared for developed Bangladesh of 2041: IGP

The Bangladesh Police is being prepared to maintain law and order in a developed nation in line with the prime minister's dream of turning the country into a developed one by 2041.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said on Saturday that he is working to build a law enforcement agency worthy of a developed country through necessary reforms and changes in every field of policing. 

The police chief made these remarks while inaugurating the newly constructed Barrack Building of the Uttara Regional Police Lines of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in Diabari.

Speaking as the chief guest at the event, Benazir said, "Police officers of a developed country should take service to the doorsteps of the people through beat policing. Officials should stay away from drugs and refrain from using their positions to take illegal services and favours from people. We have to be humane, not cruel, towards citizens."

He also promised to ensure the welfare of the entire police force.

The IGP also issued a stern warning that no member of the police could take illegal drugs or be associated with drugs in any way.

"If a person is diagnosed with cancer, the affected body part is cut out and removed. If any members of the police are involved with drugs, they will also be ruthlessly removed from the Bangladesh Police. No exceptions will be made in this regard," he added.
