PM writes to children on Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has conveyed love and warm wishes to the children of the country on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In a letter to the children, she extends greetings to their parents, siblings and neighbours.
"Today is March 17. On this day in 1920, a great man was born in this land. He is my father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman," writes the prime minister in the letter.
"He gifted us this country – Bangladesh. He gave Bangalis the opportunity to identify themselves as a nation. That is why, he is the Father of the Nation," reads the letter.
Mentioning that people's sufferings saddened Bangabandhu, Sheikh Hasina elaborates how Bangabandhu struggled throughout his life to free the people of the country from hunger and poverty, and was jailed time and again for his movements.
"This is how he became a near and dear one of the people of Bangladesh – that is why he is Bangabandhu," writes Hasina.
The prime minister informs children that this year Bangladesh is celebrating 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu and that many countries around the world are taking part in this celebration.
Hasina tells children how Bangabandhu was assassinated and how the killers have tried to erase his name from the history of Bangladesh – but failed.
"We pledge to the Father of the Nation that we shall build the 'Sonar Bangla' that he dreamt of. And that day is not far. The Father is asleep next to his parents amid the greeneries of Tungipara. May he rest in peace. His Bangladesh is marching forward at an irresistible pace and will continue to do so," says Hasina.
"We will live with his ideals in our hearts. People will thrive – generation after generation – in his Sonar Bangla. The flag that he gave to us will remain hoisted high, always," the premier adds.
Finally, Hasina urges children to be attentive in study and grow up as good human beings, and then serve the country and its people.
