Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has turned down the proposal to celebrate her birthday this year.

"I am not accepting the offer to celebrate my birthday," she said while responding to a request made by Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader during the secretariat meeting of party's central committe today.

Obaidul said, "We are planning to celebrate your birthday on September 26, even though on a limited scale. We won't take a no for an answer as we celebrate it every year."

However, the premier, who connected through a video conference from Ganabhaban, was briefed by Obaidul Quader about the agenda of the meeting from the party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue.

Appreciating the proposal on sub-committees, Sheikh Hasina said that organising the sub-committees will help to take appropriate steps in determining our future course of actions.

Earlier, the Mujib Year celebration programmes, marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic situation in the country.
