Planning Minister urges everyone to work together to attain SDG

Planning Minister M A Mannan said that the private development organisations, the civil society and personal contributors will work together to attain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) declared by the United Nation.

The minister also said, “In the past, many would die in cholera epidemics during the fall season. People suffered from hunger in the winter. However, we have reduced seasonal poverty with our combined initiatives.”

Mannan said this at a seminar titled “Women Empowerment in Achieving SDGs” which was arranged at the Ministry of Planning on Thursday.

The minister informed, “We are preparing ourselves to tackle regional poverty in our next initiative. As per SDG timeframe, Bangladesh will eradicate poverty by 2030.”

Global Vice-President and Country Director of Hunger Project, Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar was the key-note speaker at the seminar.

Badiul Alam Majumdar said, “The SDGs were determined at an international level but they will be implemented at the grassroots level.”

He added, “The government has to ensure that all of their services reach every household.”

Badiul also remarked that achieving SDGs will not be possible without people’s contribution and grassroots leadership.
