Petrol pump owners call off strike in Sylhet

The owners of petrol pumps in Sylhet have called off their strike, which was scheduled to take place from 27 December.
The announcement came today after the district administration assured the petrol pump owners of meeting their demands.
Earlier on Wednesday, the petrol pump owners called the strike to press home their six-point demand.
Their demands include - stopping the supply of low quality petrol by the authorised companies, installing fuel testing labs in all depots in Sylhet to ensure fuel quality, and stopping unjust and intentional harassment of different government agencies.
Jubayer Ahmed Chowdhury, general secretary of Bangladesh Petroleum Dealers, Distributors, Agents and Petrol Pump Owners Association, confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
"A meeting was held at the deputy commissioner's office over the strike. The DC along with local Awami League Leaders assured us of meeting the demands in phases. That's why we have decided to postpone our strike," he said.
