The decision regarding the permission for 28 October political rallies will be taken after Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) review all the risk and safety factors, said DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman.

"The OCs, ACs, and DCs of all police stations under the DMP are preparing security and risk analysis reports. When the reports come to us, we will take the decision on whether permissions for rallies will be given or not," he said while talking to reporters at his office yesterday (24 October).

Mentioning that Dhaka is a city of two crore people, the DMP chief said every application for rallies asks for permission to hold them on the roads, which will disrupt people's movement.

When asked about police checkposts during political rallies, Habibur Rahman said DMP have regular checkposts so that no one can carry weapons or explosives.

"Security measures are taken ahead of any gatherings considering security thread. We take these measures based on our threat assessment," he said.

DMP amps up security

DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime) Dr Khandaker Mohid Uddin said everyone must hold rallies at the spots designated by DMP.

"There is no information about any specific sabotage centring the rally yet. However, there will be adequate security measures in place in case any untoward situation arises."
