Pay salaries, bonuses to workers by July 25: Minister

State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian has urged the employers to pay Eid bonus and this month's salary to the workers of all sectors by July 25.

She made the call while addressing a meeting with the leaders of Sramik Karmachari Oikya Parishad at the labour office in the capital's Bijoynagar area on Wednesday afternoon.

The state minister said hardworking people have been facing more difficulties due to the coronavirus crisis. 

She advised employers not to lay off any workers to keep the wheel of the economy moving and production at a normal state.

When asked about the government's decision to lay off the jute mill workers with a golden handshake, the state minister said the move was taken for the development of the state jute industry.

Labour secretary KM Abdus Salam, Inspector General (additional secretary) of the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments Shivnath Roy, Directorate of Labour Director General AKM Mizanur Rahman and leaders of various labour federations took part in the meeting.
