Olympic Association’s 3rd executive committee meeting held

A number of decisions were taken in Thursday's meeting at Dhaka Cantonment

The Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) held its 3rd executive committee meeting at Army Multi-Purpose Complex in the Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday.

General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, president of BOA and Chief of Army Staff, presided over the meeting, said an ISPR press release.

The committee, in Thursday's meeting, has taken a number of decisions ahead of the 22nd Commonwealth Games and 5th Islamic Solidarity Games which will all be held this year.

Members of the Bangladesh contingent participating in seven disciplines at the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham, United Kingdom will leave Dhaka between 20 July and 2 August in phases. Later, they will leave Birmingham for Bangladesh between 2 and 10 August.

Besides, the Bangladesh team participating in 11 disciplines in the Islamic Solidarity Games to be held in Turkey will leave Dhaka between 3 and 15 August and leave Turkey for Bangladesh between 12 and 19 August in phases.

The Olympic Association also decided to organise "Sheikh Kamal 2nd Bangladesh Youth Games" in Dhaka at a convenient time between November this year and March 2023 considering the educational activities of the schools and colleges.

The association will also celebrate Olympic Day at a convenient time next July marking the founding anniversary of the International Olympic Committee.

In Thursday's meeting, the executive committee formed nine more sub-committees in order to smooth the daily activities of the BOA.

Those are--Sports and Environment sub-committee, Women Commission, Sports for All Sub Committee, Federation Coordination Sub Committee, Athletes Sub Committee, Law and police sub-committee, discipline sub-committee, marketing sponsor culture and Olympic heritage sub-committee and international sub-committee.

Earlier on 24 March, the executive committee, in its second meeting, formed six sub-committees in order to facilitate the daily activities of the association.

A total of 72 countries and territories are expected to feature at the upcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games in the UK's Birmingham which to be started on 28 July and to be ended on 8 August.
