Court orders seizing of Pradeep’s property
Pradeep denied bail in ACC case
A Chattogram court on Sunday ordered the seizing of property of Pradeep Kumar Das, suspended officer-in-charge of Teknaf police station, in a case filed against him by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Before that, the court rejected the bail plea of Pradeep – also an accused in the Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan murder case – in the same ACC case filed over amassing wealth illegally.
The court of Chittagong Metropolitan Senior Special Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman passed the order on the same day after a hearing. He fixed October 13 for the next hearing on the case.
At that time, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed an application to seize Pradeep's property.
ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmudul Haque told The Business Standard, "The court rejected his bail plea. Next, the ACC submitted an application to the court seeking permission to seize all of his movable and immovable properties."
"Then Metropolitan Senior Special Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman's court ordered the seizing of his property of over Tk4 crore until further notice."
On September 14, the same court showed Pradeep arrested after a hearing. And it fixed 20 September for hearing on the bail plea.
On 23 August, ACC Assistant Director Riaz Uddin filed a case against Pradeep and his wife Chumki for amassing illegal wealth of around Tk4 crore.
The ACC started an investigation in 2018 against Pradeep and his wife over their alleged possession of illegal wealth, Riaz Uddin said.
On April 9 in 2019, Pradeep and his wife were given notice to submit a statement of their assets. But they submitted it on May 12, 2019.
The ACC filed a case against them as it found inconsistencies in their statement and evidence that Pradeep and his wife had illegally amassed wealth.
Pradeep now remains in custody over the killing of former army major Sinha.
