Salman F Rahman mourns death of Father Richard William Timm

Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman Fazlur Rahman condoled the demise of Reverend Father Richard William Timm, the sixth principal of Notre Dame College in Dhaka.

The Reverend Father Richard William Timm passed away in the United State on Friday at the age of 97.

"I am deeply saddened to learn that one of the founders of Notre Dame College, former Superior of the Congregation of Holy Cross in Dhaka, an all-time true friend of Bangladesh, and my teacher whom I admired greatly, Richard William has passed away," said Salman F Rahman in a press statement issued on Saturday.

Salman F Rahman said that Father Timm was one of the pioneering individuals in Bangladesh's education sector.

He said, "I consider myself privileged to have had him as my teacher when I was a science student in Notre Dame College in the 60s. Like many of his students, I have been deeply influenced and shaped by his guidance."

"Although he taught us Biology in actual fact, he taught us much more. He instilled in us a sense of duty and responsibility at the same time encouraging us to make the most of life," added Salman.

He also said that he considers himself truly fortunate having Father Timm not only as his teacher but also as his mentor and guide, the release added.

Salman F Rahman prayed for his departed soul and offered his condolences to the bereaved members of his family.                          

Father Timm was the sixth principal of Notre Dame College Dhaka and served in Bangladesh for 66 years.

As a social worker, he contributed phenomenally to rebuilding the devastated villages of Bangladesh in the wake of the Liberation War in 1971 as the planning officer of Caritas, a relief service organisation.

He was also engaged in social activities and helped the economically disadvantaged and less fortunate section of our society. People of Bangladesh will remain forever grateful to him for his great contributions, the release added.
