Freedom fighter Morshed Ali, a member of the Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) Control Commission and former general secretary of Duksu, has passed away.  He was 76.

Morshed Ali was under life support at the high-dependency unit (HDU) in the capital's BIRDEM General Hospital after suffering a brain stroke on 26 March.

Comrade Morshed Ali got involved in communist politics at a young age through the student movement.

After the war of liberation, he played an important role as a leading figure in the expansion and mass organisation of the Communist Party in Dhaka metropolis till 1999.

In his long political life, he actively participated in the historic six-point movement, the 1969 mass uprising, the great liberation war of 1971, the anti-dictatorship movement against Ershad, and the labour and peasant movement. His role in the labor and peasant movement was noteworthy.
