Economist Dr Hossain Zillur's mother passes away

She breathed her last early Wednesday due to old-age complications

Johra Begum, mother of eminent economist, Executive Chairman of Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) and advisor to a former caretaker government Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, passed away today. She was 87.

She breathed her last as a result of old age complications at 2:00am on Wednesday, Dr Hossain Zillur said. 

The Ratnagarbha Ma, also the wife of late Dr Abdul Matin of Chandnaish Upazila in Chattogram, left behind four sons and two daughters and a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn her death.

Johra Begum was laid to rest in the family graveyard at 10:30 am after a Namaz e Janaza (funeral prayer) at a mosque adjacent to Amra Hospital in the upazila.

Her sons Dr Hassan Zillur Rahim is a renowned scientist at NASA and Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman is the advisor to the former caretaker government and currently chairman of BRAC Bangladesh, Prof Dr Mohsin Zillur Karim is a Cardiologist and Engineer Adnan Zillur Morshed is a professor at Washington DC in USA.

Daughters Prof Dr Tahmina Banu is former Head of Department, Pediatric Surgery at Chattogram Medical College Hospital and Adina Banu is a prominent businessperson.
