Ekushey Padak-winning Actor Masum Aziz passes away

Ekushey Padak-winning actor Masum Aziz breathed his last on Monday (17 October) at Square Hospital in the capital around 3:30 pm due to health complications.

Masum was diagnosed with cancer and also suffered from cardiac issues. Earlier, he was put on life support on Thursday.

Sammilita Sangskritik Jote president Ghulam Quddus confirmed the news to local media.

Masum Aziz made an immense impact with his performances on stage, on television and in films. He made his acting debut in theatre while still studying at the University of Chittagong and made his television debut in 1985. Not just in acting, Masum excelled as a screenplay writer too. 

The prolific actor starred in over 400 dramas and films throughout his career. In 2006, Masum won the National Film Award for his performance in 'Ghani' in the best supporting actor category.  

He was awarded the Ekushey Padak this year for his contribution to the realm of acting. 

Masum is survived by his wife and two children. "The body of Masum Aziz will be taken to the Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday around 11am," said Golam Quddus. 

Later today, Masum Aziz will be taken to his village house in Pabna, where he will be buried.
