‘No scope of vote-rigging through EVM’

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AKM Nurul Huda said there is no reason to object to the use of the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
"Electronic voting is the only way ensure that one person will cast only his ballot," said Nurul Huda during a meeting in Chattogram on Wednesday.
The meeting was organised centring the upcoming election for Chittagong-8 constituency.
"There were irregularities in the electoral systems that came after 1947. We have even seen multiple candidates declared winners in some elections," he added.
"In fact, the election culture has long been controversial. If it is possible to roll out the electronic voting, one person will not be able to cast another's ballot," added the chief election commissioner.
He also said that the number of law enforcers will be reduced in the by-elections.
Additional Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Md Mokhlesur Rahman and Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan were present, among others, at the meeting.
