No pressure in investigation of Rozina’s case: DB

The Detective Branch (DB) of police on Thursday has said that they are not under any pressure from any vest in dealing with the case against Prothom Alo Senior Journalist Rozina Islam.

"The investigation into the case against journalist Rozina will continue at its own pace. There is no pressure here," said H M Azimul Haque, deputy commissioner DB Ramna Branch while briefing the media.

Investigation will be neutral, he said.

The case, filed under Official Secrets Act 1923, was handed over to DB police Wednesday.

The hearing on Rozina's bail plea will be held today in a case filed by Health Ministry official under the Official Secrets Act.

The virtual hearing is scheduled to take place before the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

Earlier on Tuesday, police produced her before the court seeking 5-day remand.

Rejecting the remand plea, Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad fixed 20 May for hearing on Rozina's bail plea.

Rozina was kept confined at the health ministry for more than five hours on Monday before being handed over to police.

Later, she was shown arrested in the case on charges of spiriting away "important" documents.

Investigative journalist Rozina, known for dozens of ground-breaking reports in her career, was charged with breaching the Official Secrets Act 1923.

Rozina Islam is known for her strong reportage of official corruption. She has recently made several investigative reports revealing corruptions in the health sector.
