No office of any political party would be allowed on footpaths anymore, said Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam today.

He said this after conducting a drive in the capital's Uttara to evict illegal establishments from the roads and footpaths.

He said that earlier the footpaths could not be kept free from such offices for long, as there was a blame game between police and political parties over the issue.

They blamed each other for running the offices on the footpaths, he added.

The drive started at 12pm from Sonargaon Janapath Road.

Around several hundred of illegal establishments were demolished from most of the roads, including Khawja Garib Newaz Avenue and the road in front of Rajlokkhi market.

On September 14, Atiqul announced that an eviction drive would be conducted against illegal encroachment on the footpaths.
