No organisation or club will be allowed to use our playgrounds: Taposh

No organisation or club will be allowed to use the playgrounds of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC),  Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, mayor of the DSCC has said.

The mayor made the remark on Wednesday after inspecting a field adjacent to the TT Para bus stand.

"Land that has been vacated and reclaimed from grabbers, we are turning into open playgrounds so that our children in that ward or its neighborhood can play there. So, we will not allow any organisation or any club to use our playground," he said.

Mentioning that an open place in Ward No. 42 was reclaimed from land grabbers, the mayor said, "Children will be able to play there from next month. We are working to create a favorable environment for playing there too."

"We want each ward to have at least one playground or open space so that our children can play there," the mayor added.

A lot of government land, including railway land, is illegally occupied in the TT Para area. The city corporation will send a letter to the authorities concerned so that this land can be handed over to it, he added.

"We will continue working to arrange playgrounds in these places," Taposh continued.

Regarding mosquito control, the mayor said, "If the same pesticide is used repeatedly for a long time, mosquitoes become tolerant to it. Therefore, new pesticides will be used in the next two weeks. Hopefully, mosquitoes will come under control from then on."

Citing that the canal cleaning drives are being extended to April from March, the mayor said, "We are currently using a pump. The rest of the pumps will be used in the next two weeks."

"A high-level committee is working on the navigability of the rivers as per the directive of the prime minister. We have presented the issues to the committee so that the four rivers surrounding Dhaka can regain their navigability," Taposh added.
