No more garbage out in the open: Mayor Taposh
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor, Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, on Thursday said he does not want to see any more garbage and waste out in the open and on roads.
He said this in the morning upon inaugurating the intermediate waste transfer center for ward 40 of the city.
"We have overhauled the waste management system since last year. We plan to set up intermediate waste transfer centers in each DSCC ward. We want to see no more waste in open places," the mayor said.
Taposh said, "Primary garbage collectors will collect garbage from houses, commercial offices, and other establishments starting at six o'clock in the evening in every ward. All waste will be transferred to intermediate waste transfer centers, and the garbage will later be taken to the central waste disposal site."
"We have taken initiatives to set up intermediate waste transfer centers in all DSCC wards by December next. At present we do not have enough land to set up such sites and we have asked other government agencies to allocate us lands for implementing the project," DSCC Mayor said.
"We will also procure 30 compactor machines by next year to take garbage to the central waste disposal site from the intermediate waste transfer centers," he continued.
Among others, Dhaka-6 lawmaker, Kazi Firoz Rashid, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Farid Ahmed, DSCC's Chief Waste Management Officer, Air Commodore Md Badrul Amin, were present on the occasion.
