The authorities concerned have suspended the 193rd Eid-ul-Azha Jamaat (congregation) at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan in Kishoreganj this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We have taken this decision considering the safety of devotees due to Covid-19 pandemic as tens of thousands of devotees gather the historic maidan to join the Eid congregation every year," Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and Sholakia Eidgah Committee President Md Sarwar Morshed Chowdhury told BSS.

He said jamaat of Eid-ul-Azha will be held at nearby mosques instead of Eid-gahs or open spaces maintaining the social distancing and health guidelines. If necessary, several Eid Jamaats will be held at a single mosque, he added.

The authorities also had suspended Eid congregation of Eid-ul-Fitr at the historic Sholakia Eidgah Maidan this year due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
