National Fisheries Week begins on July 21

This year’s fisheries week aims at preserving fisheries, developing the sector and encouraging people to go for fish farming

The government has announced that the National Fisheries Week will be observed between July 21 and July 27 this year with different awareness raising programmes. 

In a press release, the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock said this year's fisheries week aims at preserving fisheries, developing the sector and encouraging people to go for fish farming. 

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will release fish fingerlings in the lake of her official residence Ganabhaban at 10:30 am on July 22 to inaugurate the week.

The fisheries and livestock ministry has taken various programmes including conducting drives against applying harmful chemicals, operating mobile courts to implement the fisheries related laws, giving advices to fish farmers and distributing fish farming materials among them.

The ministry will also distribute germ plasm free of cost among the hatchery owners and entrepreneurs to preserve small and endangered fishes.
